There is something strange about photographing your own child for the first time. Especially when I have spent so much time taking pictures of other people’s children. Or of just other people in general. I knew I wanted to try and take all the little detail shots of my son. While he was in the NICU, it was difficult. There were always wires.. always bandages… always needle pricks and tape marks in the way. I shot those too… but it made me sad to look at them.
This image was taken during my “rooming in” which is when they let me stay in the hospital with him for a couple of night before taking him home, to make sure he was stable enough to go home. Looking back now, I can’t believe he was ever that small. They change so fast.
