My husband was sweet enough that when we found out we were going to have a niece, he cut pieces of wood into little baby blocks so I could decorate them as a gift. However, because I actually got to that, I had to marvel at how pretty they could be just as plain our wood pieces.
Using just a tablecloth and an external flash, I created this shot. I really liked how dimensional it turned out. Even with the flat black background, the block placement created different shades and sides within the blocks.

“All life demands struggle. Those who have everything given to them become lazy, selfish, and insensitive to the real values of life. The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today.” -Pope Paul VI
